Sophia Halbrook

Associate Producer

Sophia Halbrook joined Texas Tech Public Broadcasting in January 2012 after interning for the KTTZ-TV during her last semester at Tech. She produces and hosts the Coming Up Next spots along with producing Keeping It Local and Locally Owned

Sophia is from New Braunfels, Texas, and recently earned her Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Tech University. Besides interning for Channel 5 while at Tech, Sophia was a reporter for The Daily Toreador and competed in National Broadcast Society/Alpha Epsilon Rho Broadcast Journalism competitions where one of her news packages won first place for the region.

When Sophia is not working, she loves playing sports and outdoor activities. Sophia is a competitive tennis player and loves showing horses, hunting and spending any time outdoors.

Taking a leap of faith for Camp Lead

My heart was beating so loud I could hear it rattling in my ears. I’m not sure if I was breathing hard because of the moderate physical activity, or if the jitters were causing me to hyperventilate.  By the time I climbed my way up the 40 foot power pole to attempt a leap of faith, I was just repeating one silent wish in my head; “I hope I don’t fall.” Standing up on that little platform while the pole is shaking beneath you is way harder than it looks…but I found a way to balance myself and I slowly lifted into a stance.

Having Fun at Gypsy Heart Horse Rescue

There’s something to be said about people who dedicate their lives to helping those who are helpless. The something I have in mind isn’t great, or even wonderful. It goes much beyond that. I call these special souls, saviors. Ramona Foxworth is one of these saviors who has dreamed of creating a horse haven for her entire life. She made this dream a reality 5 years ago. Ramona has already saved more than 60 horses who came from unfortunate circumstances, and that is putting things lightly.

What's in a blog?

Greetings Channel 5 viewers and 89.1 FM listeners! It’s Sophia here, one of Channel 5’s newest team members. I’m a recent Tech grad and I am absolutely thrilled to be working with great people and doing something I enjoy. Although I’m a new full time member at Channel 5, I got my feet wet last fall during my last semester as an intern at KTTZ-TV…and it looks like I didn’t wear the folks at Channel 5 out too bad…because I’m still here!
